Redwing Blackbird, outdoor artwork installed in East Hampton, NY at the Arts Center at Duck Creek.

Three suspended circles rotate in the wind to reveal the flashes of bright color, as can be seen on the wings of a redwing blackbird in flight. One of the most abundant species of songbird on the East End, it may be identified by its red and yellow wing pattern. Its habitats include fresh or saltwater marshes and dry meadows and fields. Winter flocks can be congregations of several million birds, including other blackbird species and starlings. The bird manifests strength, agility and unity and is considered a positive omen.
